  Who we are

Surrey Drug & Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) was set up in 1995 as a county-wide forum for tackling substance misuse. The team brings together senior officers from local agencies, including the police, probation and prison services, health and social services, education and the voluntary sector.

The DAAT's actions are driven by the Government's 10 year strategy, 'Drugs: Protecting Families and Communities'.
This was published in 2008. 'Drugs: Protecting Families and Communities'

The four strands of work within the Drug Strategy are:

  • protecting communities through tackling drug supply, drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour;
  • preventing harm to children, young people and families affected by drug misuse;
  • delivering new approaches to drug treatment and social re-integration; and
  • public information campaigns, communications and community engagement.

  What we do

The DAAT has budgets both for the commissioning of adult drug treatment services and for young people’s prevention and treatment services.

Both budgets are managed by DAT commissioners and decisions on expenditure are made by multi-agency commissioning groups.
